NHS 111 for Mental Health
Posted on:
You can now call 111 and select the mental health option to access crisis mental health support via the NHS. You will be transferred to a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner who will be able to help you get the support you need. This replaces the local numbers for each area, and means that wherever you are, you can call 111 to get help.
They Can:
- Triage and assess for genuine Crisis intervention (for severely mentally unwell people to be treated in the community, rather than being put under section, and to prevent them being put under section)
- Signpost people to relevant charities and support services.
They Cannot:
- Prescribe medication.
- Replace contacting a GP for treatment/assessment.
- Provide access to an out of hours doctor, or nurse prescriber.
