Spot the Signs of a Stroke: Act FAST

Posted on:

Imagine waking up and feeling a bit strange. Maybe you can’t lift your arm, or your smile looks lopsided in the mirror. Or maybe your words come out sounding funny. These might not seem like a big deal, but they could be signs of something very serious — a stroke.

A stroke happens when blood can’t get to your brain properly. It’s very dangerous, and the faster you get help, the better the chance doctors have to help you.

Remember to Act FAST:

  • Face: Is one side drooping when someone smiles?
  • Arm: Can they lift both arms, or is one too weak?
  • Speech: Are their words slurred or hard to understand?
  • Time: It’s time to call 999 straight away if you notice any of these signs.

Every second counts, and getting help quickly can save a life.

You can learn more about strokes and what to do at nhs.uk/actFAST.

If you ever spot these signs in yourself or someone else, don’t wait. Call 999 immediately. Acting FAST can make all the difference.
